  • Air Purifier – Air Cleaner Report About Choosing The Proper Unit

    My name is Barry Cohen. I have been in the indoor air quality field and air cleaner industry since 1989. This honest and accurate report is to help you choose the proper type of air cleaner or air purifier that will best serve your required indoor air quality needs.

    There are many types of air cleaning devices on the market being sold to people to control and remove the many allergens that trigger allergy, asthma and other respiratory and immune system problems. The most common triggers are smoke, dust, pollen, dust mite allergen, cat and dog dander, mold spores and a huge cocktail of chemicals that out-gas from carpeting, furniture, pesticides, paints, cleaning products and household building materials.

    The most common portable air cleaning devices offered on the market include: HEPA filtered air cleaners and air purifiers, Non- HEPA filtered types of polyester or washable fiber filtered air cleaners, ionizers, ozone-ionizer air purifiers and electronic air cleaners. I will explain how each of these air cleaner devices actually operates and how they will best benefit your direct needs.

    HEPA Air Purifiers & Air Cleaners

    Portable HEPA filtered air purifiers and air cleaners are by far the best all around type of room air cleaning system for dust, allergy and asthma control. However there are many levels of quality in the different brands and models that are on the market. I will explain the advantages and differences.

    When choosing a quality HEPA air cleaner there are a few very important things to look for.

    1. Cleaning Square Footage Area and Air Exchange Rate Per Hour

    Look for your HEPA air cleaner to have the highest air exchange rate per hour in any sized room or open area. Remember no air cleaner can clean through walls or clean through narrow hallways or doorways from one room into another. Note: If you place a HEPA air cleaner in a hallway between three bedrooms the air cleaner will do a wonderful job of cleaning the hallway, but it will not be able to clean the air in the adjoining bedrooms.

    Each bedroom will need it ‘s own air cleaner if you desire to keep the air in your needed bedrooms clean. A quality HEPA air cleaner can clean and exchange the air through its HEPA filter up to 15 times per hour in an average sized bedroom space of 12 ‘ x 15 ‘ and do a good job of cleaning the air in an open room or areas up to 1000 square feet. If your family room is open to your living room and or kitchen area and the open space is approximately 1000 square feet or smaller a quality HEPA air cleaner will do a good job of keeping that space much cleaner. Most people choose to keep one quality HEPA air cleaner in their needed bedroom{s} and one in their family room area to cover the majority of their living space.

    Don ‘t be fooled into thinking that a smaller room should have a small air cleaner! Quality HEPA air cleaners are only approximately 15 inches square by 24 inches high. The height can vary a few inches one way or another. AGAIN, you want to have the highest air exchange rate per hour in any sized room or open area! A small air cleaner will have a low air exchange rate per hour giving you an inadequate cleaning job in most cases. Note that the great majority of the department store and chain store HEPA air cleaners that are on the market are far inferior compared to the much higher quality air cleaners sold by air cleaner specialty businesses and they provide only a very low air exchange rate of approximately 3- 5 air exchanges per hour in a small bedroom. In a larger family room area they are completely inadequate.

    Activated Carbon And Zeolite Included In HEPA Filtered Air Purifiers And Air Cleaners

    Many HEPA Air Cleaners and HEPA air purifiers include a certain amount of activated carbon to absorb and remove odors and out-gassing chemicals from the indoor air environment. Some of these carbon filters are mixed with a mineral called zeolite, which does a great job of absorbing ammonia and urine odors. The more activated or carbon and zeolite in the HEPA air cleaner, the more odors and out-gassing chemicals can be removed from your indoor air environment. Activated carbon and zeolite can remove a huge cocktail of chemicals that out-gas from carpeting, furniture, pesticides, paints, cleaning products and household building materials. Most quality HEPA air cleaners will include between 3 1/2 and 15 pounds of activated carbon. It is important to replace the carbon as needed. The lesser the carbon the more often it should be replaced. Replacement carbon filters are normally inexpensive and easy to replace. Beware of low quality air cleaners that claim that they have activated carbon in them. Most of the inexpensive low quality air cleaners only use a very, very small amount of carbon dust that is impregnated into a replaceable sponge, foam or fibrous pre-filter. I can assure you that a few ounces of carbon dust will not do a good job of removing out-gassing chemicals and odors. Filters impregnated with carbon dust, is nothing more then a marketing scheme and it is all show and no go!

    2. Aftermarket filter replacement costs.

    An important concern when purchasing a HEPA air cleaner is to know what the future after market filter replacement costs will be. Quality HEPA air cleaners may cost a bit more money up front, but most quality brands will cost you much less money in future aftermarket pre-filter, carbon filter and HEPA filter replacement costs. Many of the less expensive and lower quality department store and chain store HEPA air cleaners may cost you between $100 and $250.00 when you purchase them. But the yearly filter replacement cost can almost equal the cost of the unit itself. You can spend a $1000.00 feeding filters into inexpensive lower quality HEPA air cleaners in only five years time. Most high quality HEPA air cleaners after market filter replacements will only cost between $180.00 and $400.00 in five years time. See! You just saved $600.00 to $800.00 dollars. gippro

  • Health Effects of E-Cigarettes

    E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that heat a liquid to produce aerosols for inhalation. They contain nicotine (the addictive component of tobacco products) as well as glycerin, propylene glycol and flavoring chemicals. In addition, the vapor from these e-cigarettes can irritate the lungs and can be toxic to the nervous system. There are also concerns that e-cigarettes can be used in conjunction with other tobacco and non-tobacco products, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

    Inhalation of e-cigarette aerosols has been shown to cause platelet and leukocyte activation, which can lead to vascular endothelial dysfunction, thrombogenesis, and oxidative stress. The effect of daily e-cigarette consumption on platelet function, vascular tone and endothelial activation remains controversial but has been reported in several studies.

    E-cigarettes can also affect the airways by causing inflammation, oxidative stress and cytokine storm. Using a popular cream-brulee flavoured e-cigarette, it was found that short-term exposure to the aerosol induced toxicity in human lung epithelial cells and led to the production of cytokines IL-6 and IL-8 as well as inflammatory mediators such as NO and ROS.

    The best way to reduce your risk of harm from e-cigarettes is to stop smoking. Talk to your doctor or mental health professional about free resources that can help you quit, like online, text and phone services or apps. Ask for support from family and friends, and make a plan to quit that includes activities that you enjoy. Be patient; it takes time to break a habit, but you can do it. Also, find ways to reward yourself for sticking to your plan. And don’t forget to protect yourself from vape fires and explosions.   • How the Internet Changed Pizza History

    Pizza has always been America’s favorite food. It’s been the subject of movies, books, and songs. This is not sustenance, but for some has become an obsessive delight. And for many Fans, this dish is a sheer and utter passion. The debate brings on an endless thirst and quest for argument, that cannot be easily quenched with just a slice or two.

    People discuss their favorite pizzerias with the same emotionally charged energy as they would discuss politics or their favorite sports team. Pizza has become so entrenched into the culture that it is easy to forget, pizza was once simply peasant food. It was for many years, enjoyed by the lower echelons of society, who could afford little else.

    For most of the long and romantic history, this was a regional dish. The great pies in New York stayed in New York. The inside secrets of the best New York pizza remained in the boroughs and neighborhoods where it was created. There would be an occasional newspaper or magazine article. Television and radio reporters would sporadically discuss slices on regional and local venues. However, unless you visited New York and knew where to look, these inside secrets remained mysteries to the rest of the country.

    The pies in New Haven stayed in New Haven. Frank Pepe began making pizza in 1925. Sally’s founded by Franks, nephew, Salvatore Consiglio, came into being a decade later. Modern Apizza, also in New Haven developed their own incredible masterpieces. Up the road in Derby, Connecticut, Roseland Apizza had created their own brand of incredible cuisine, independently of anyone else.

    Most people outside of New Haven were clueless to the pizza being created there. This was true for most of the residents of the entire state. Most Connecticut residents had never thought of traveling to New Haven to eat pizza. And why would they? They had their own great pizza, or so they thought.

    And so it had been across the country. State by state, region by region. From the East Coast to the Heartland. From the Deep South to the West Coast. From Chicago to Los Angeles. From Portland to Louisiana. Pizza made in that region stayed in that region. There was no cross over. No sharing of pizza ideas.

    The only way you discovered regional pizza was by knowing someone who lived there or by traveling yourself to a particular area and searching it out. Other than that, pizza was regionalized remained hidden and undiscovered.

    This was true not only of the United States but across the entire planet. Pizzerias in Italy, all of Europe and other continents hid their pizza secrets to all but the fortunate residents and random traveler.

    However, things were about to change. Enter the great game changer. The Big Kahuna of Information was about to turn regionalized pizza into a global point of argument and dialogue.

    The floodgates of the great pizza symposium were opened. The Internet was the single biggest catalyst to educate, inform and open the debate of how to make pizza and where to find great pizza. The earth had truly become a global village of pizza. Now various countries, regions cities and towns were able to showcase their own marvel of pizza.

    Slowly at first, websites were created. Here and there pizza was discussed. Pizza making secrets were shared. People became aware of pizza in other areas. Pizza Forums and blogs picked up the banner. And today you will find hundreds and hundreds of pizza related websites, blogs and discussion forums. All of these information portals share insights and knowledge about pizza.

    Finally pizza lovers across the globe had a common voice. Pizza was given a common arena of deliberation and examination.

    And we are just getting started. More pizza blogs and websites are created daily. All with their own unique pizza perspective, individual recommendations, pizza picks and pans. The pizza debate continues.

    I don’t want to discount the many books on pizza, which assisted in the process of promoting the joys of pizza. Certainly, Peter Reinhart’s American Pie, My Search for the Perfect Pizza fueled the fire of pizza information. Ed Levine created a master piece with A Slice of Heaven. Penny Pollack and Jeff Ruby with their pizza tribute Everybody Loves Pizza made a huge statement.

    However, even the Internet assisted with the promotion of these books and allowed for more seasoned debate about pizza. Now you did not have to go out to purchase a book. If you found a pizza book you liked, you could just order it online and have delivered right to your door.

    As much as the Internet did to create knowledge about countless unknown pizzerias, it became a way to show people how to make pizza. For the first time pizza fans could learn recipes and techniques from home. They could discuss and even ask questions. And if that weren’t enough the advent of video allowed pizza fans to learn pizza making by seeing it demonstrated in front of their eyes. And if they missed something the first time around, they could watch it again and again.

    Some of the pizza information was free, while others (myself included) created their own pizza e-books for sale.

    There were a number of pizza fans who decided to take pizza making to the next level by opening their own pizzeria. I have been shocked and surprised at the number of world class pizzaioli who revealed to me, they first learned pizza making from the Internet.

    This has happened to me on a number of occasions. I arrived at a pizzeria restaurant, looking forward to a classic pizza. I had the pizza, I loved the pizza, and when I asked the owner where they learned to make pizza, they proudly declared: they learned all about pizza making directly from the Internet. conneaut lake concerts
